Cutaway to the Cutaway

This is a remarkable comparison of school shooting info-graphics by Denver Post Graphics Editor Jeff Goertzen, which shows just how the aesthetic of the dematerialized cutaway functions in representations of institutional violence. This is also a case where print journalism represented the facts much more accurately in its visual rhetoric. As someone starting Maya classes this week, it's amazing to see just how bad the news graphics from the large network broadcasts can be and how much they depend on stock forms. Notice how the schoolgirls held captive by the gunman are depicted as chesty chrome creatures or as large-eyed anime cartoons. (Via Information Aesthetics)
