IndieCade

If you are within the sound of my voice or within range of my roving Los Angeles county automobile, you should get yourself to IndieCade, the independent games festival currently taking place in Culver City. It's a festival dominated by digital games, but the very first piece I saw was Train by Brenda Brathwaite. I don't want to give away too much about this one-of-a-kind gallery game designed to be played by three players with model train cars in which the yellow figures fit awkwardly. Nick Montfort provides some reflections about Brathwaite's recent work here. Brathwaite has also produced Mexican Kitchen Workers, a game intended to draw attention to the procedural rhetorics at work in having businesses hire undocumented workers.
